My Favourite Snacks

|

There are just some foods out there that make my day after an especially rough ordeal. Call me a fatty, but I love eating, and my favourite appliance is the fridge. You might not agree with me, but in no particular order, here are 5 ideal snacks.

1. Pocky: This Japanese snack food sounds pretty silly at the start, but these biscuit sticks coated with chocolate (one flavour) are one of the highlights of my life. For some reason, eating Pocky is really addictive. Also, it is pretty expensive in places like Walmart, but if you have an Asian supermarket near you, then Pocky is quite affordable. Unfortunately, Barrie doesn't have an Asian supermarket (not that I know of), and the GTA (greater toronto area) is the closest place that does.

2. Things with peanut butter: Peanut butter usually goes with bread or crackers, but you could put peanut butter on a lot of things to make them taste delicious. Peanut butter with celery actually tastes good (it sounds nasty, but it tastes pretty decent), as does peanut butter with most fruits. Did you know celery actually has negative calories because it takes more calories to digest it than it is worth! As we all know, this is probably because celery is really bland, having slightly less flavour than your standard blade of glass. Just thought that was an interesting fact.

3. Dark chocolate: Some people think it tastes terrible because it's bitter, but I like the bitterness of the high cocoa content. On a side note, don't try pure cocoa; it's really nasty. Doesn't it make you wonder why people say chocolate is healthy? Well, it's not. After the really healthy cocoa is mixed with sugar in a ratio of 1 part cocoa and something like 5000 parts sugar, it isn't really healthy anymore, is it?

4. Sesame snaps: These are just too good, and that's probably because they're simply sesame seeds that have been solidified in sugar and honey - most things with sugar are really tasty. Except for sugar and water: even though it sounds like it would make your boring old water a thousand times better, it is actually really nasty regardless of the quantity of sugar in it.

5. Almonds: As boring as this snack may seem, almonds are strangely fun to eat, not to mention tasty. It might just be me and my bizarre tendency to pay attention to random things, but that's okay, because several people agree with me that almonds make a great snack. They also have a good amount of monounsaturated fat, which is good for you in certain quantities.
