To celebrate Pac Man's 30th anniversary, Google did something amazing; they created their first playable logo, with homage to the iconic yellow circle. Visitors to Google on May 21st and 22nd encountered a fully interactive Pac Man game, with letters spelling out "Google" strategically placed within. Also, the "Feeling Lucky" button was replaced with an "Insert Coin" button, to start the game. This small act brought back great memories for long time gamers.
However, just stopping to play the logo's game during work may have cost your company thousands of dollars. A study done by RescueTime showed that people spent an extra 36 seconds on the Google homepage those days, amounting up to 4.8 million hours of productivity wasted. This was estimated to cost the economy $120,483,800 because of lost work time. It is certainly shocking how the little things add up to such a large number.
At the school, students were extremely happy to find an online game not blocked. Justine Allin exclaimed, "It was really nice to have a game to play at school, but it was weird because normally all games are blocked, and then there was Pac Man that wasn't blocked. I was like, 'oh my gosh'!"
Unhappy that you missed the chance to play Google's version of Pac Man, or just missing the hours wasted from playing it? Don't worry, Google understands your pain. Go to google.com/pacman to see the exact homepage that was created for Pac Man's 30th anniversary. Now you can constantly ignore your homework, and instead spend time getting chased around by colourful ghosts (by the way, their names are actually Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde). Google has shown that old school arcade games like Pac Man will always be remembered and loved.
