Global Presents 2010

|

The Global Perspectives program is a fast paced, fully integrated course package that focuses on global issues. On May 20, the students got a chance to display the fruits of their labour in a showcase and presentation at Innisdale before they leave for Germany on Wednesday.

Family and friends of the students first had the chance to view various projects that the students created throughout the semester. These included complex and very artistic boxes and life size statues, each of which displayed a global issue, as well as several other works. Emily Maw, one of the Global 2010 students states, "To present all our work was amazing. Having our friends and family see all our hard work throughout the semester gave us a feeling of accomplishment and happiness. A lot of time and effort went into everything, so to see everyone enjoying our presentations was a relief."

After viewing the projects, guests filed into the Little Theatre for a presentation on what the Global students have done so far in the program. This included many dances they learned in Cuba, including the baseball dance, casino wheel, and conga. Several captivating monologues were presented from the perspective of people suffering from global issues, which were very moving for the audience. Some issues that the students focused on included poverty, women's rights, the diamond industry, health, and so much more.

One of the highlights of the presentation was the launch of the 2010 Global website. A major project for the students is to create a website that displays all the experiences and work for the viewing of future global students and their parents. There are individual profiles for the students and teachers, complete with videos, audio, and pictures. The website was extremely well done and really showed the audience how much hard work each student has put into their assignments.

At the end of the presentation, the students thanked the teachers for their devotion to the program. A special thanks and goodbye were given to Mr. Craig and Ms. Pounds who are retiring this year. Mr. Morrison and Mr. Ruttan were also applauded on their hard work and organizational skills. Best of luck to all the Global students as they take the final step of their Global journey in Germany!
