The Updater turns a full year old

I am extremely proud to be writing this editorial. It's wonderful and somewhat surprising to me that Innisdale's most successful student-run newspaper (the others were long before our time, and petered out quickly) is still moving forward. Forever, moving forward.

A faint memory remains in my head of reading some novel in Grade 10 in which there existed a school newspaper. To me, the concept was mythological, foreign, even ethereal. After that, the seed of what would become the Updater slowly developed, and eventually it fully blossomed in December 2008.

I was eating lunch with my friends, and I suddenly mentioned the idea. They were receptive, which encouraged me to pursue it further. Slowly, I got a team together, drawing from all strata of the school. Lots of people wanted to write. Jacob built the layout and online systems while I established the physical presence. Together, our group met irregularly, but we soon fell into a comfortable rhythm. On April 8, 2009, the very first print issue of the Updater was released.

I was proud then, and am prouder now. The Updater exists thanks to the dedication and perseverance of each of its members. Our journalists report on Invader life. Our technical designers support our growing presence in paper, on our website, and in social media. Our editing and management staff make the paper possible.

With fewer than fifty school days before I leave Innisdale forever, I'm sad to be near my goodbye. Equally, though, I am ecstatic to see the Updater's progress, and know that a big, bright future exists for it here at Innisdale. To everyone who has made it possible, thank you, and don't forget to keep reading!
