On Thursday, April 15, the Senior Boys Rugby team took to the field at McMaster University to play in a warm-up tournament before the season began. Leaving early in the morning, the team fought off the grogginess of sleep to play hard against all of the opposing teams and show off their skills.
In the first game the team faced off against a hard opponent, who dominated most of the game and kept the boys from scoring any tries. The team, however, kept them to only two tries over the entire game. The boys took the loss and moved on to the next challenge.
In the second game, the Invaders fought back with a greater ferocity and a thirst for revenge after their loss. Playing wiith exemplary skill and powerful offensive tactics the boys scored three tries against their opponents, and prevented the opposition from scoring a single try against them. This was a definite confidence booster and the boys were ready for their third match-up.
Raring to bring down the hammers of hell upon their new opponents, the boys were not going to show any mercy. The last game represented the consolation final, and the team really wanted to win. Unfortunately, so did the other team. Each side fought valiantly, and neither side gave an inch. In the end the teams were too evenly matched up, as each side only scored one try each. Player of the game during the consolation final was awarded to Justin Gleben.
For the team, it was a good starting point for them to continue on into the season from and progress to bigger and better teams. Good luck with the rest of the season boys.
