Innisdale's rowing team kicked off the season with incredible results on Saturday March 27 during the Barrie Indoor Erg Championships. For several rowers, it was their first competition. They all did a spectacular job, and are all looking forward to an amazing season.
Erg competitions involve great amounts of endurance and timing strategy to succeed. The team must row 2000 metres, both individually and in team relays. Proper technique is required in order to travel the desired distance with the most efficiency. Innisdale's rowing team has been training both on erg machines and doing weight circuits for some time now, and the results from their first competition certainly prove their hard work.
The competition took place at the Barrie Rowing Club, where rowers from schools all over Barrie competed for the top places in their categories. Innisdale's top placements included Sarah Lemay, who placed first in the senior girls light weight; Cailey MacDonald, who placed second in the senior girls open; Nathan Yee, who placed second in the senior boys light weight and was closely followed by Wesley Dutton, who placed fourth in that category. Jordan Gardiner also placed fourth in the senior girls open category. Congratulations also go out to Justine McNichol, Rachel Hanson and John who all put forth their best efforts and came out very strong and encouraging results. Everyone on the team is to be congratulated on their determination and team spirit!
The Learn to Row program is starting up very shortly, so if you are interested in learning how to participate in one of Innisdale's most unique sports, listen to the announcements or contact Mr. Davidson to find out more information. It is going to be a great season!
