On April 14th, Innisdale students will partake in thirty hours of fasting, known as the 30 Hour Famine. The goal is to heighten awareness about world hunger, while raising funds though a pledging system. Students who participate in the fast will have a chance to understand how over one billion people who go hungry each day feel. The money raised from the pledges the Invaders collect will go to fight hunger by providing access to education (including facilities and supplies), to food and sustainable food sources and nutrition, and to water education in communities around the world.
The 30 Hour Famine is run by World Vision, a non-profit Christian humanitarian organization. It reaches out to all people in need, especially children, of all religious beliefs, genders, races and ethnicities. World Vision works hard to help communities in poverty or treated with injustice. As well, it provides disaster response (eg. Chile and Haiti earthquakes). Last year, the 30 Hour Famine raised $10, 897, 851. The goal for this year is $11, 500, 000. Will you make the voice of hunger heard?
