A devastating earthquake hit Port-au-Prince, Haiti on January 12, 2010. This was a shocking event to the world, especially only twelve days into the new year. It was also shocking to Innisdale's Social Justice Club and because of the overwhelming circumstance, Social Justice decided to hold a garage sale to raise money for the victims of the tragedy.
On February 18, the Helping Hands for Haiti garage sale was held in the Great Hall during periods 3 and 4, and was defintely a successful event. "Even though I couldn't be there, I went up and saw the stand, I saw everyone looking and I knew it was going to turn out as a big hit." said Nichelle Lewis, a grade 12 student that was hopeful for the helpful event. The garage sale included items such as clothes, books, CD's, and many household items. In the end, it definitely was a big hit! Social Justice was able to raise $400, and came to a final decision to donate the money to the Canadian Red Cross. It was truly a great event, and allowed Social Justice, Art Society and Student Council to involve the school community to help out for a very important cause. Great job Innisdale!
