Five things to do when you have the morning off

|

I can honestly say I've never looked forward to a semester like I looked forward to my second semester of grade twelve. With a ratio of two classes to three periods off (those being the three morning classes), it was understandable why I couldn't wait. I've never had so much break-time!

However, upon starting my first day of semester two it became blatantly clear that I'd need something to do with my time. Sitting around in the Great Hall for three periods was, quite honestly, quite boring. I compiled a list of things that I - and other students in a similar position - can do to pass the time while waiting for their next class, to combat the onset of boredom.

1. Sleep in! If you have a couple of periods off before your first class, why not? Catch some extra sleep and come into school a happier, well-rested person.

2. Catch up on homework. Admittedly no one likes this one, but you can keep on top of your classes and free up your after school time for the loftier pursuit of fun.

3. Apply for scholarships. If you're a graduating grade twelve student like me, all that extra time could be really useful for applying for an extra couple of scholarships for university.

4. Take an extra shift at work, or hand out resumes. Depending on how close you live to the school, or how far away your job is, you can take a short, morning shift at work to help with the flow of money. Or, if you're looking for a job, use your spares to apply for one. It's almost time for the infamous summer job rush, so use your time off to your advantage.

5. Catch up with friends. Everyone needs a little social time!

Whatever you choose to do to pass the time, enjoy your spares and don't overwork yourself.
