Grade Eight Night A Great Success

|

Last Wednesday night Innisdale's doors were opened to next fall's grade nines for the annual 'Grade Eight Night. ' The Guidance Department and Leadership class teamed up to make a truly outstanding event with nearly 600 people in attendance.

The grade eight's and their families were first welcomed with a short assembly from guidance, where they learned important information to prepare them for their responsibilities come fall, and the upcoming course selections. Next Leadership students brought them on a tour of Innisdale.

Samantha Sircelj, a grade twelve leadership student explains, "we brought them to areas of their choice. If they liked arts we took them to the cyber arts room to see the stuff they would be expected to do. it was an information night too, they could have asked us 12's about anything they wanted, it was partially for the parents as well."

Innisdale's many clubs and extracurriculars were invited to set up in the Great Hall to show the newcomers their many options for getting involved. Grade eleven student, Sarah Campbell, Music Executive's secretary and a member of Innisdale's Senior Band was out promoting the Music Department. She confides, "not only is it important to show next year's grade nines the different ways to get involved, as that really does make the high school experience much more memorable, but it's also a great way to raise interest and recruit new members."

This event was definitely a positive influence for our next year's students, and hopefully served to calm some protective parents. Grade eight student, Haley Birrell from Hewitts Creek Elementary school says, "it was a fun experience and a good way to learn about what courses ISS has and what the school is about. Now I really can't wait until next fall!"
