On Tuesday, December 1st, the Cafetorium was filled with not only the sounds of Christmas joy, but also a variety of amazing performances involving cultures from around the world. The holiday spirit was shown by all of the fantastic musicians, singers, conductors, and even the teacher or two that joined in.
The Vocal Ensemble, lead by Ms. Parnell, sung a great rendition of different "Charlie Brown Christmas" songs, along with the song "Travelling Soldier", which many may recognize from the Remembrance Day assembly. The Concert Choir sung an African song titled "Dubula", along with a few other impressive songs. Ms. Christie showcased her Grade 9 and Grade 10 Instrumental Music classes, and even played trombone during the Grade 9's recital of "Jingle Bells". Also, Ms. Christie conducted Junior Band's great opening of the show with three different pieces, one of which included "Santa Claus is Coming to Town". Mr. Hathaway was heard singing the occasional backup part during one of the Music Repertoire classes, and even jammed out on the saxophone during the class' performance of "Pick Up the Pieces". Senior Band's songs "Scottish Ballad" and "The Liberty Bell" were also lead by Mr. Hathaway.
Overall, it was a wonderful night that even with all of the technical difficulties or mistakes, both the audience and performers enjoyed. A special thanks goes out to everyone who made the evening a success: the teachers, students, donors of silent auction items (most of which were bought by Ms. Parnell), and poinsettia buyers that helped support the Music Department's Scotland and England trip. The Winter Concert was an extremely great combination of all aspects of Innisdale's musical talent, and shows us that any future music performances will definitely be quite the show!
