The football banquet is truly the end of the season for the Invader football team for it is the last time that the teams are together as a unit. Despite how the season went, it allows the players to share their experiences of the past season, reminisce on past plays, enjoy the time they had on the field, and share a joke or two about something really funny.
This year's banquet was highlighted by guest speaker Jon Svec who had played university football for the Waterloo Warriors and continued on to become a defensive coordinator for the Saint Francis Xavier University football program. His speech on his career and his life experiences was truly inspiring, as he talked about how football influenced his life, his choices, and his career path, as well as, talking about his work habits before and after he became a defensive coordinator.
As always the Invader Football team would like to give their greatest thanks to the Innisdale Secondary School hospitality program for the amazing spread that they provide every year for the team, parents, and coaches. Without their hard, strenuous efforts and skill in the culinary arts the banquet would not be the same.
Finally after all was said and done, and the food was cleared away, the evening ended with the handing out of trophies for players who showed the greatest amount of leadership, skill, and determination during the season. Congratulations to those award winners.
Although the year did not end on the highest note for both junior and senior, it was a learning curve for the two very young teams, one that will prepare them for next year. As always, next year is another year.
